Amnesia - Ibiza (Torsten Fenslau Remix)

If we are to believe this youtube link, this is a special Dorian Gray club remix by Torsten Fenslau of the classic Belgian New Beat track 'Ibizia' by Amnesia.  It does have elements of TF... but I am not totally convinced that it isn't a megamix put together by another DJ in his name.
Still, it's pretty funky all the  same.  So let's sit back and enjoy.

Simple Minds - Up On The Catwalk (and 5x5)

Simple Minds are playing in Melbourne 30th November 2012 at the awesome Palias Theatre.  I have seen them 3 times live... this current tour incorporates their 5x5 series- 5 tracks from the first 5 albums- 1978-1982... their Golden Age... not to be missed... they are as good live today as ever!

Edit- I know that UOTC doesn't qualify as a 5x5 track... so-

Robotiko Rejekto - Crying

At last!  Some new music from Ra-Hen and ROBOTIKO REJEKTO...
This CD 'Corporate Power' is brilliant!  8.5/10!
Welcome back! (It's been nearly 20 years!)

Update 19 / 11 / 2102 - the more I listen to 'Crying' the better it gets... on constant rotation at home and in the car (with the windows down- trying to impress the local girls in their short skirts ready for summer!)

X Marks the Pedwalk - The Side of the Wrong

New CD released by X Marks the Pedwalk... Ace!

Torsten Fenslau

Torsten is one of my musical heros... I have met them all... except Torsten (and Jens Zimmermann).

Torsten died in a car crash November 6th 1993...  I can't tell you how sad this makes me.

Go here to get a glimpse of Torsten's legacy... He made amazing underground 'techno' but there are few people who haven't heard Culture Beat's 'Mr Vain' - it has 23 million views... not bad for one of the world's premier underground techno producers!

Everything you need to know about the emergence of German 'techno' can be found on this compilation

Soft Cell - Torch

Coldcut - Yes Yes Yes

Oliver Lieb (Force Legato - System)

Oliver Lieb is one of my favourite electronic artists... especially his LSG project... he is playing Friday - 09/11/12 - at the Royal Melbourne Hotel, here in Melbourne!  See you there!

Get a ticket!

In the meantime, enjoy this Agreppo track of his from the 80s.

Organisation For Fun - Be My Dream

More Agreppo... this time with Sven Väth on vocals.

Out Of The Ordinary - The Dream

I like to post videos of my favourite tracks... but unlike New Beat, which took the Belgian charts by storm, there aren't many videos of the darker German 'Agreppo' cousin...
This is one of the finest Agreppo tracks, in my arrogant opinion. :)

Psyche - Eternal

Darrin in Warsaw
Psyche live in Warszawa Poland

Boytronic - You

Crazy!  I love it!

Fancy - Slice Me Nice

Ken Lazslo - Hey Hey Guy

Lipps Inc. - Funky Town

TANKT - Teenage Christ

This is the first new TANKT track since 2006!  TANKT is Roberto Massaglia and I.  We are writing together again and this track will get a video...  We have more or less gotten bored with electronics for this project and have picked up the bass and guitar.  Roby on bass, me on guitar with the production and mix by Roby.  It is currently being mastered by Dave Walker of Stepford Audio in Melbourne.  Dave has mastered every TANKT release so far...

Listen to it here

One of the very best New Beat tracks... great atmosphere and humour... fantastic funny and sexy video!  You can't beat New Beat!

Major Problem - Acid Queen

Awesome Acid New Beat track... I didn't know it had a video clip until today!  What a great surprise!

Simple Minds - Glittering Prize (Live Newcastle 1982)

Simple Minds are my second favourite band after The Klinik...*** this is a wonderful live video of their track Glittering Prize... for me this was Simple Minds at their absolute peak.

This also makes me happy because one of my three favourite bass players is on show...

1. Derek Forbes - Simple Minds
2. Dino Molinaro - Ikon
3. Herbie Flowers - Harry Nilsson / Serge Gainsbourg / David Essex etc...
(In fact- I think I will post some HF vids soon).

*** Yep- I'm still at Primary School where everything has a ranking...

The Models - I Hear Motion

We can off-set the cheesiness of Nena with this...  another classic piece of 80s Australian brilliance when convention didn't seem to matter...

Nena - 99 Luftballons

Cheesey yes... but brilliant...

The Saints - Know Your Product

When listening back to Midnight Oil's Sleep... I remembered 'The Saints'...

Skinny Puppy - Worlock

I don't really dig Skinny Puppy stuff... however, I appreciate much that they have done from a technical point of view... I just didn't grow up on it which I think is half the appeal.  I was much more into Nitzer Ebb and Front 242... just timing and exposure really.  But, the track 'Worlock' is one of my favourite Industrial pieces ever... it combines brutality and politics with one of the most emotional resolutions to an Industrial track that I've ever heard... Mindblowing!

Serge Gainsbourg / Brigitte Bardot - Bonnie and Clyde

Super Hot!

Eddy Huntington - USSR

Let's face it... anyone who knows me knows that THIS is my fav...

Howard Jones - New Song

I have a history with this song... but amazingly- tonight is the first time I've ever seen the filmclip!

Midnight Oil - US Forces

Australia's best rock band... I watched this live and taped it off the radio... my two favourite tracks were Minutes To Midnight and Sleep...

Severed Heads on Rock Arena

The end of the Blue Ruin clip had a smidge of Susan Dowling* from the ABC TV show Rock Arena... Therefore I picked this Severed Heads**** special to highlight how advanced we were in Australia in the 1980s for electronic music... I still got chased by Bogans though...  I'd give you a link to 'Bogans'... however, Bogans don't use the internet- they smoke cigarettes... they hate pooftas... they love footy (but so do I)... and can be guys or girls... but they really don't like the Pet Shop Boys**

*I freaking love Susan... just for the record! :)

** Sorry about the Taylor Swift ad...

***I adore Dusty Springfield too!

**** Severed Heads are still ridiculously under-appreciated...

Blue Ruin - Bad Gin

Melbourne radio stations 3RRR and 3PBS were my introduction to non-manistream music... infact, they shaped everything I know today!  They were also a fantastic gateway to the incredible Australian and New Zealand music of the 1980s... a very fertile period indeed!

Dragon - Rain

I remember a party in 1983... where I was in love with the older sister of the guy who's birthday it was... suffice to say- it didn't go too well... I wandered around the streets with this song in my head... and yes- it was raining.

Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights

Kate Bush is... unique...
Kate is highly sexual and sensuous, she is earthy, intelligent, geeky, technical, creative... she is, and has always been in control of her creative vision.  I fell in lust with her before I even knew what lust was... and I find her as interesting and sexy now as ever... so check out her new work too.

Alphaville - Sounds Like a Melody

Fantastic complexity and innovation of synthetic music from its time... simply stunning!

Peter Schilling - Terra Titanic

There is something really compelling about the teutonic take on pop music in the 80s... and I will give you a sample of some of my favourites...

DöF - Codo

I have always fancied Annette Humpe... She looks so cool in this clip...

Faustine Wave - SubRem

SubRem

I love this track... I wish this dude would go further... exciting aural candy.

Psyche - Live in Poland

This is pretty funny... this video shows me as guest keyboardist for Psyche in 2008 in Warszawa... We were 20 minutes late on stage because Darrin was swamped by fans... and rightly so...

The train trip from Berlin to Warszawa and back is worth its own blog!

Here is my portrait of Darrin out the front of the venue.

Later that month we (Darrin, Stefan, and I) went to see Mt Sims play in Berlin... I will try to find my photos...

Update - Can't find the photos.   :(

But you can watch this Psyche track as compensation

Beta Evers - Don't Be Afraid

No video unfortunately... but this is a zuperzexy track by the amazing Beta Evers... woof!

Grossstadtgeflüster - Weil Das Morgen Noch So Ist

My favourite song and clip of 2011...

Klinik - Memories

One of the first Klinik tracks I heard... they changed the way I listened to music forever...

The first was Pictures- from the Plague LP- even though it was bundled on the CD release of Time in 1991 it actually came out in 1987 on vinyl.

For more visit- Discogs

Dirk Ivens

Those who know me know that The Klinik is my favourite band EVER!
Dirk Ivens, worked also in projects such as Dive and Absolute Body Control...
I was lucky to meet him in Germany in 2008. A super hero of mine who happily channeled the spirit of such icons as Ian Curtis and those crazy NY hobos Suicide...

Grauzone - Eisbaer

Some of the old... always loved this track... the joys of youtube!  Sexy video!
A bit like my place on a Monday night...

The Sound of the Crowd - Wildlife

Music and video by the super-talented John Von Ahlen... Awesome!
If you don't know who John is; he is the meisterchef of Parralox...

The Gig That Never Was

This is a poster created for a night that never eventuated back in 2010.  Psyche were due to come to Melbourne and I was asked to organize a venue and some other acts. The venue was booked, the poster made (thanks to Simon Castricum) but the promoter who was responsible for bringing Psyche to Australia pulled out and as such, the show never happened.  A real shame.
They did finally get here in 2011 - paid for by themselves - and played a great show with Tycho Brahe.
